The Year 5 and 6 students in Room 3 are learning about our school's sustainable garden through their study about change.  After learning about the history of the Living Room as an inside and outside classroom, the processes the students have followed and action, Room 3 have decided to continue the challenge.  In these photos, students are exploring the garden area looking for the set criteria of components that the past students wanted in this garden.

The Year 5 and 6 students in the Sustainable Elective, Term 3, 2012 explored insects and spiders in our school gully habitat.  They investigated their diversity and found that we didn't seem to have as many weta and we hoped we would have.  They took action and built six weta boxes.  Over the last month, we have spotted three weta in the boxes making this their own special habitat.

The Hukanui Beehive continues to go well, with our honeybees very active this summer.  They are busily pollinating flowers in our school gardens and in the local community.  We have an excess of honey on the comb that is for sale at the school office for $5.  All funds go back into our students' sustainable projects.  Check out our two bee keepers attending our hive.
